The Métier Private Eye is the no logo bag I keep thinking about

I have a weakness for bags that look even better after a few months of wear. The Private Eye feels like one of those. Soft, discreet, almost no logo and roomy enough for the strange little collection of things that follows me everywhere.
I keep coming back to the black one. With a big cream jacket and jeans it looks relaxed; with tailoring it could go straight from work to dinner. It fits a laptop without showing that it fits a laptop, which is rarer than it should be.
The harder question is the size. And then the leather. Obviously.
the one that keeps winning
It fits everything I need (and a 13-inch laptop), but the soft shape saves it from feeling like a sensible work bag. So I can also throw it on casually.
The centre compartment is what tipped me over: it unclips and becomes a smaller bag. Two bags hiding inside one feels a little too convincing.

The OG
My favourite. It fits a laptop, but still looks relaxed enough to carry just because.
The Slim
It still fits a 13-inch laptop, but the narrower shape sits closer to the body. Cleaner, neater and it feels very classy.
The Mini
Very cute. Completely useless for my laptop. I still understand the appeal.
The Large
It fits your whole life and a 14-inch laptop. I love this for weekends away, when I am packing all my dogs’ essentials plus my own.
I love a clever inside
I usually fall for the outside of a bag and discover the inside later. This one is actually so well thought out when it comes to the interior. The original has a laptop sleeve, an outside pocket and smaller pockets for all the things that normally disappear. The centre compartment keeps everything in place, then unclips and becomes its own little shoulder bag. Very clever. Slightly dangerous for my wish list. But very good news for the chaos that is the inside of my bag.

the leather changes everything
Suede is the romantic choice. It already looks a little lived-in, which I love. Buffalo has more grain and attitude, while soft-grain calfskin is quieter and probably the easiest to wear. Elvis leather has a subtle shine that I can imagine getting better and better with age. This is not helping me choose.

black or dark cherry?
I keep changing my mind between black and dark cherry red. Black is the easy choice: quiet, goes with everything and lets the soft shape do the work. But the dark cherry red creates killer outfits. Dark denim, a baby tee and that bag. Done. I also have a feeling it would make even the most basic outfit feel finished.
And yes, it is expensive. At this price, I would want to carry it for years and watch the leather get better with wear. The hand-stitching, solid brass hardware, Alcantara lining and removable centre pouch are exactly the details I would be paying for. Now I just need to stop switching between black and dark cherry.
FAQ
Your questions answered
Does the Métier Private Eye fit a laptop?
The original and Slim fit a 13-inch laptop. The Large fits a 14-inch laptop.
Where are Métier bags made?
Métier makes its leather goods in Italy. The handles and pressure points of the Private Eye are finished with hand-stitching.
Which Private Eye material is best for everyday wear?
I would choose soft-grain leather for the easiest everyday option. It is supple, resistant to scratching and keeps its shape while softening with wear. Suede is the more romantic choice, but I would be more careful with water, friction and pale clothes.
Is the Métier Private Eye heavy?
The original weighs 1.34 kg before anything goes inside, so I would not call it featherlight. The rounded handles and adjustable strap help, but with a laptop, charger and the rest of my day packed inside, it will feel like a proper work bag.
